English names and Chinese translation

Chinese characters are not part of an alphabet, so English names cannot be transcribed into Chinese letter by letter. For example, the four letters A-D-A-M will not translate into four Chinese characters. However, many common English names have been translated into Chinese characters that (usually) sound somewhat similar to the English pronunciation. The "Pin Yin" system is a phonetic system that helps dictate the pronunciation of Chinese characters. Below is a table of 193 English names and their most common translations.
